New floatplane dock opens at Kamloops Airport

KAMLOOPS – A new project and revitalization around the Kamloops Airport is making waves in the community.

Managing director of Kamloops Airport, Heather McCarley, says this morning marked the grand re-opening of the airport's new floatplane dock on the Thompson River.

McCarley, Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian, and Ken Martin, president of the B.C. Floatplane Association, attended the airport today for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and presentation.

McCarley says the project involved a full rehabilitation of the float plane facility, including the upper deck, replacement of docks and the aircraft launch space.

"The project was probably the largest one that was focused on general aviation in recent years," she says. "All of it benefits the Kamloops Airport community.”

Not only was the floatplane dock added, but McCarley says park space in the area has been installed so that residents can picnic near the planes and watch aircraft. The Rivers Trail has also been connected to the area, which means a safe walking path through the facility.

Five planes from the B.C. Floatplane Association were in attendance today, and McCarley says she was made a member of the association.

"We're just so proud of the facility," she says. "It's beautiful, it's functional, it's safer, it's better in every way.”
