Search is on for Kamloops jet ski operator after crash on Thompson River

KAMLOOPS – Officials in Kamloops are continuing to scour the Thompson River looking for the operator of a jet ski after a collision last night.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Mat Van Laer says in a news release that at roughly 6:30 p.m. yesterday, July 29, officers attended the shores of the Thompson River in the Valleyview area to help locate the operator of a personal watercraft who disappeared after crashing with another watercraft.

Kamloops Fire Rescue had already deployed and were on scene looking for the man, who's approximately 30 years old.

The operator of the other personal watercraft, along with other witnesses are being interviewed by police, Van Laer says. Early reports suggest both operators were travelling toward each other on the river, and both turned the same way in an attempt to avoid each other, causing them to crash with one watercraft going over the other.

Kamloops Search and Rescue was activated and worked in locating the missing operator throughout daylight last evening. More resources are expected to be deployed this morning.
