Just one left in Penticton problem house

PENTICTON – The city’s bylaw supervisor reports progress is being made in Penticton’s efforts to deal with issues surrounding a problem property in the city.

Bylaw Supervisor Tina Siebert said in a statement released today, Aug. 2, the property owner of 377 Winnipeg St. has served the residence’s only remaining tenant with an order of possession on the property following an arbitration hearing last week and an eviction notice issued some time ago.

The property currently has had all its services disconnected.

On Aug. 1, city bylaw, RCMP and Penticton Fire Department personnel attended the property for an overall inspection of the property, which has outstanding good neighbour bylaw, fire and life safety issues.

Another inspection on the property is planned soon, following which the city plans to board up the residence and arrange a clean up.

Siebert feels once the house is vacated, the city will have an easier time keeping it empty. The resident is expected to be leaving soon.

“Once it’s been boarded, it will be closely monitored by our staff and private security. We have the ability to re-board quickly should a situation develop where someone is trying to squat on the property,”  Siebert said.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
