Marois defends PQ candidate accused of spouting anti-Semitic myths
MONTREAL – Parti Quebecois Leader Pauline Marois is defending a candidate who has been accused of spreading anti-Semitic propaganda.
Louise Mailloux has written that the price of certain kosher food products is purposely inflated to financially profit the Jewish community.
The Montreal-based Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs has called on the PQ to reject Mailloux’s beliefs.
Marois said today she supports Mailloux’s candidacy and made it clear her party is not anti-Semitic.
Marois told a news conference that Mailloux had long taken a position on these issues, but that they are her words.
The party leader added Mailloux also supports the PQ’s secular platform.
Mailloux is running in Gouin, a hotly contested Montreal riding the PQ lost in 2012 after holding it since 1976.
