FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. – Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene, Ont., edged Halifax’s Mark Dacey 6-5 in the sixth draw of the Syncrude National Grand Slam of Curling event Friday.
The win improved Howard’s record to 2-1 while Dacey dropped to 1-2.
Elsewhere, Calgary’s Kevin Koe scored three in the sixth and eighth ends en route to an 8-4 win over Switzerland’s Pascal Hess. Koe now stands with a 3-1 record while Hess fell to 0-3.
Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher beat Japan’s Yusuke Morozumi 8-4 in seven ends. Bottcher (1-2) stole three in the third and added doubles in fifth and seventh ends against Morozumi (0-4).
South Korean Soo-Hyuk Kim scored two in the eighth en route to an 8-6 victory over Regina’s Brock Virtue. Kim evened his record to 1-1 while Virtue is 0-4.
Sweden’s Niklas Edin scored one in the extra end to beat compatriot Oskar Eriksson 6-5. Eriksson (2-1) had a steal of one in the eighth to force the extra end but with the win Edin (3-1) moved atop Pool C.
