Carvery has 13 points to lead Huskies to CIS women’s baskeball win over Pandas
WINDSOR, Ont. – Angelina Carvery had a game-high 13 points as the second-seeded Saint Mary’s Huskies earned a 71-51 quarter-final win over the No. 7 Alberta Pandas on Friday at the Canadian university women’s basketball championship.
Rachelle Coward added 12 points and freshman Emily Jameson scored 10 for Saint Mary’s, which improved to 30-0 this season.
Andria Carlyon had 10 points for Alberta, making its first CIS tournament appearance since finishing third in ’09.
Saint Mary’s stormed out to a commanding 25-7 lead after the first quarter despite two-time CIS player of the year Justine Colley playing just 16 minutes because of early foul trouble.
The Huskies outscored Alberta 21-8 in the second for a 46-15 half-time advantage.
Saint Mary’s will play either Saskatchewan and Queen’s in semifinal action Saturday.
