SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Canada’s Rachel Homan opened the Ford Women’s World Curling Championship with a 7-5 win over Russia’s Anna Sidorova.
Homan scored two points in the fifth and another two in the seventh.
Russia countered with a pair in the ninth to tie the game, but Canada scored two points in the 10th for the victory.
Homan and her Ottawa teammates take on the Czech Republic and Switzerland on Sunday.
Homan, third Emma Miskew and front end Alison Kreviazuk and Lisa Weagle won the bronze medal at last year’s world championship in Riga, Latvia.
