Alberta government associate minister resigns, leaves Tory caucus

EDMONTON – An associate minister in Alberta Premier Alison Redford’s cabinet says she is resigning her post and leaving the Tory caucus.

Donna Kennedy-Glans, member of the legislature for Calgary Varsity, says she will sit as an Independent.

She says in a news release that she no longer believes the 43-year-old Progressive Conservative government can make the changes needed for a better Alberta.

Kennedy-Glans was the associate minister for electricity and renewable energy.

Redford has been facing increasing unrest within her caucus, fuelled by concerns over her leadership style and a $45,000 trip to South Africa.

Last week, Calgary backbencher Len Webber also quit the Tory caucus, calling Redford a bully.
