UPDATE: Osoyoos police arrest suspect in bizarre incident

OSOYOOS – RCMP have arrested a 45-year-old woman who is alleged to have walked into a stranger’s house, unannounced, to see her baby yesterday.

RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Jason Bayda says in a media release the arrest was made at around 1:10 p.m. today, Aug. 9. The Osoyoos resident is scheduled to appear in court in Penticton tomorrow afternoon.

An Osoyoos resident reported to police a woman walked into her house, uninvited, early yesterday morning asking to see the woman’s baby.

The resident pushed the woman out the door and the woman allegedly grabbed a weapon concealed in her waist band, forcing her way back into the house. Police say the resident was successful in pushing the woman out the door and subsequently reported the incident to the RCMP.

Police patrols failed to locate the woman.

No word from RCMP on what charges the suspect will face.

“We understand this incident was very traumatic for this new mother. We are doing what we can to… determine what her intentions were,” Bayda says in the release.
