Obama watches Ontario MPP’s son marry top adviser’s daughter
TORONTO – The ties between the Ontario legislature and the White House just got stronger.
An Ontario member of parliament watched his son marry into the inner circle of U.S. President Barack Obama in a private ceremony in Chicago last weekend.
Toronto Liberal Bas Balkissoon and the president were both on hand when Tony Balkissoon tied the knot with Laura Jarrett, daughter of Obama’s friend and longtime adviser Valerie Jarrett.
The couple — both lawyers — met at Harvard Law School.
Other high profile guests included U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and former advisers to the Clinton administration.
U.S. media reports say all four members of the Obama family walked to the ceremony, held at the home of the brides’ grandmother.
Balkissoon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
