Barbados police search for gunman who shot Canadian in the chest during robbery

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Barbados police are searching for a gunman who shot a Canadian in the chest during a robbery.

Inspector David Welch of the Royal Barbados Police Force says 33-year-old Jonathan Hubble was shot last week during a robbery at a house in the eastern parish of St. John.

In a Tuesday evening phone interview, Welch says Hubble underwent surgery at a hospital and was quickly reported in stable condition.

He was not sure if the Canadian has since left the island. Welch says he could not immediately disclose more information about Hubble, including his hometown.

There have been no arrests.

Crime rates are relatively low in Barbados. But on its foreign travel advice web page, the British government says there has been a recent increase in muggings and armed robbery.
