LAS VEGAS – New carpool lanes on one of the Las Vegas area’s busiest freeways are debuting as throngs of people depart the Electric Daisy Carnival.
Nevada transportation officials are expecting greater traffic jams Monday morning on Interstate 15 with the combination of festivalgoers and commuters.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the I-15 high occupancy vehicle lanes officially went into operation at 6 a.m.
Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Tony Illia says the HOV system will really be put to the test.
The southbound lanes of I-15 are a frequent route for travelling to Southern California.
More than 150,000 people were estimated to have attended each of the three nights of the carnival at the Las Vegas motor Speedway.
The festival features more than 200 performers on eight stages.
