Kamloops RCMP issue warning about jewellery scam

KAMLOOPS – Police are advising the public to not buy jewellery off the street after reports of a scam in Kamloops.

RCMP has received a report of two men of South Asian descent approaching people on the street offering to sell an 18 karat gold ring for $60.

When the buyer takes the ring to be appraised they find that the ring is worthless, according to an RCMP media release.

“It is not advisable to buy jewellery from someone on the street,” Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release. “Look for jewellery at a retail store. If you do decide to buy privately, have the jewellery assessed for value by a professional before paying for it.”

If you see two men selling rings on the street, Kamloops RCMP ask the public to call police or take down a license plate number.
