MONTREAL – So who will defend Luka Rocco Magnotta — the man accused of mailing body parts to the Conservative Party of Canada? His lawyer will be a Conservative.
Toronto lawyer Luc Leclair will represent Magnotta, accused of first-degree murder in the gruesome death of Montreal university student Jun Lin.
Leclair has organized leadership campaigns for several prominent conservatives — Peter MacKay, Belinda Stronach and John Tory, the former leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservatives.
Magnotta is also alleged to have defiled Lin’s corpse and mailed his hands and feet separately to four locations across Canada.
One of Lin’s severed feet was shipped last month to the federal Conservative party Ottawa headquarters.
The 29-year-old Magnotta also faces a charge of harassing Prime Minister Stephen Harper and MPs.
