Some University of Ottawa players not co-operating in sex assault probe: police
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Police in Thunder Bay, Ont., say a number of University of Ottawa hockey players are not co-operating with investigators in a sexual assault investigation.
The university’s men’s hockey program was suspended in late February over the police investigation of an alleged sexual assault in Thunder Bay.
Investigators from the Thunder Bay police and the RCMP went to Ottawa to conduct interviews with players and staff connected to the University of Ottawa hockey program.
Police say the University of Ottawa and a majority of the players with the university’s hockey program co-operated with investigators.
Thunder Bay police have declined to describe the specific allegations, or to identify who they are investigating and who brought forward the complaint.
The alleged assault occurred during the weekend of Feb. 1 when the hockey team was in Thunder Bay for two games against Lakehead University.
The University of Ottawa has announced a task force to look into the allegations of sexual assault and revelations of a sexually explicit online chat that targeted the head of the student union.
