New wildfire northwest of Olalla
PENTICTON – A new fire in the Penticton area is adding more smoke to already smoky skies.
B.C. Wildfire Service reports this afternoon, Aug. 15, crews are responding to a new fire reported earlier today, about 19 kilometres down the Olalla Forest Service Road, located around 30 kilometres southwest of Penticton.
The fire, believed to be lightning caused, is currently measured at 30 hectares in size and is exhibiting rank four fire behaviour, with an organized flame front, tree candling and some spotting ahead of the fire.
Six firefighters are being supported by air tankers, two helicopters and heavy equipment.
There are no threats to Olalla or Lower Similkameen Indian Band land at this time.
