Osoyoos RCMP seek driver in hit and run

OSOYOOS – Osoyoos RCMP continue to look for a man responsible for a hit and run on Highway 3 this afternoon.

Around noon, a Ford F150 towing a tent trailer was sideswiped by a Nissan Pathfinder just east of Wagon Wheel Road, on Anarchist Mountain 25 km east of Osoyoos.

The incident caused extensive damage to both vehicles, rendering the truck and tent trailer inoperable and blocking Highway 3 for nearly two hours.

Osoyoos RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Jason Bayda said in a press release issued today, Aug. 15, the driver of the Nissan, 42-year-old Jeffrey Pelly, is also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with a probation order.

Pelly fled the scene in the Nissan, which he ditched a short distance down the road. He then continued his flight on foot through the nearby brush.

A police search that included a Penticton police dog and an air search out of Kelowna failed to locate Pelly, who was last seen wearing dark pants, a light coloured shirt, red hat and black back pack.

Pelly is white, male, approximately five feet, nine inches tall and slim in build.

Police ask the public to refrain from picking up hitchhikers and to call 911 if anyone matching Pelly’s description is seen in the area.

The driver of the truck and tent trailer and her two young children were shaken and subsequently assessed by B.C. Ambulance.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
