Kamloops family adopts kitten dad rescued

KAMLOOPS – When Midnight the kitten found himself stuck in an underground pipe, rescuers scratched their heads trying to figure out a way to get him out.

Luckily Dan Groess, a drain cleaning specialist from Kamloops, was called in to help. He's the owner of A Groess Underground, a plumbing company.

His wife Deanna Groess says her husband used a camera to locate the kitten stuck in the pipe.

"The kitten was following the light (on the camera) but when it got to one part of the pipe, it went straight up and the kitten couldn't get up," she says. "So Dan wrapped a shirt around the camera and the kitten grabbed on and he was able to pull him out."

The couple's daughter Ariana, 7, was there to witness the whole rescue and even offered some help.

"She was meowing at the kitten in the pipe, trying to get him to come out," Deanna says.

And it didn't take long for Ariana to ask her parents if they could keep the kitten.

"Our daughter really wanted to keep him but the SPCA needed to get him looked at," Deanna says.

The nine-week-old adventurous feline was cared for by the B.C. SPCA in Kamloops until the kitten was given the OK to go to a new home this past weekend.

"We got the call and we decided we were going to get him," she says. "He is doing amazing, we got him Saturday evening and we brought him home."

Deanna says he's adjusting well to his new home and loves all the space to run around.

"He runs everywhere really fast, he's so hyper," she says.
