Autopsy: Sedation drugs given to 3-year-old during dental procedure likely caused her death
HONOLULU, Hawaii – An autopsy report says a 3-year-old Kailua girl who suffered a heart attack during a dentist visit likely died because of the drugs given to sedate her.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports (http://ow.ly/uPJl4 ) the medical examiner concluded Finley Boyle probably died because of the sedatives and local anesthesia that were administered during her December dental procedure. The report classifies the death as accidental.
The girl lapsed into a coma Dec. 3 in the office of Dr. Lilly Geyer at Island Dentistry for Children. She died Jan 3.
Geyer’s attorney John Nishimoto called the allegations “unproven” but declined to comment further.
The autopsy report says Finley received five drugs in preparation for cavity fillings and root canals. The medical examiner noted her teeth were in good shape.
The girl’s parents filed a negligence lawsuit.
