Canadian Philip Bester announces retirement at Granby National Bank Challenger

MONTREAL – Canadian Philip Bester has decided to retire.

The 28-year-old Bester made the announcement on Wednesday at the Granby National Bank Challenger.

“I’ve come to the end of my tennis journey and am closing the chapter in my competitive career,” said Bester.

“The game of tennis has given me a once in a lifetime opportunity, which I am extremely grateful for as it has shaped me into the person I am today through all my experiences. I am at peace with this decision and excited to move forward and pursue the next challenges and opportunities in my life.”

The Vancouver native, who is currently ranked No. 456 in the world, reached a career-high of No. 225 in July of 2015. He won nine singles titles on the ITF Futures Circuit and also represented Canada in Davis Cup.

Bester’s final event will be his home tournament, the Odlum Brown Van Open in Vancouver from Aug. 14-20.
