No charges to be laid in probe of alleged assault at boxer Pascal’s home

MONTREAL – No charges will be laid in the investigation of a sexual assault complaint that saw police search the house of boxer Jean Pascal in January.

A spokesman for Quebec’s director of criminal prosecutions confirmed the decision Monday.

Detectives from the Therese-De Blainville regional police considered Pascal a witness when they interviewed him in January after receiving a complaint from a 25-year-old woman.

She said she had non-consensual sex at a party at Pascal’s home in Lorraine, north of Montreal.

Police raided the home, saying everyone present at the time was considered an important witnesses.

At the time of the raid, the former light heavyweight champion Pascal was just coming off a dominant unanimous decision over Lucian Bute.

More than 20,000 people packed the Bell Centre to watch the fight, which was billed as the biggest ever between two Canadians.

“I just received an important phone call,” Pascal tweeted Monday.

“Today is one of the best days of my life.”

The director of criminal and penal prosecutions decides whether there is enough evidence to lay charges after an investigation.
