Kelowna Rockets blast Royals in Victoria

VICTORIA – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Victoria Royals 4-1 Friday night in Victoria, beginning a weekend double-header between the two WHL BC Division teams with a convincing road victory.

Tyrell Goulbourne had a goal and an assist and goalie Jordon Cooke turned aside 28 of 29 Victoria shots as well as two penalty shots in the game to lead the Rockets to victory.

Kelowna improved to 8-2-0-2 on the season and moved into a tie with Victoria (9-7-0-0) for first place in the BC Division with the win.

Cole Linaker, Myles Bell and Zach Franko also scored while Madison Bowey had two helpers for the Rockets who outshot Victoria 37-29 in the game.

With the Rockets up 2-0 in the second period, Cooke stopped Victoria shooter Logan Nelson on the Royals first penalty shot. In the third period with the score 4-1 , Cooke again flashed the glove and stopped Luke Harrison on Victoria's second penatly shot.

The Rockets and Royals will meet again Saturday night in Victoria in a battle for first place in the BC Division.

It was the first of four straight road games for the Rockets, who will travel to Prince George next weekend for a pair of games before returning to Kelowna Nov. 6 for its next home game.
