VIDEO: How a Kamloops church chose to support Pride Week

KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops church took their Pride display a step further yesterday.

The Kamloops United Church has painted a rainbow on the wheelchair accessibility ramp leading up to the main entrance.

Not every church in Kamloops or even Canada is accepting of LGBTQ people.

“That’s why doing the rainbow out front is such a big deal,” Florence Ballard the administrative manager says. “Because it is intentional, explicit, [and] clear that this is a safe place.”

The United Church of Canada has allowed LGBTQ people to be full members and clergy since 1988. This year the national level is launching “The Living Apology Project” to determine if the church owes the LGBTQ community an official apology for its actions, Rev. Jordan Cantwell says in a media release.
