Accused in Kamloops baseball bat assault granted bail

KELOWNA – The Kamloops man awaiting trial for charges connected to a 2016 assault against an 18-year-old man has been granted bail.

Kristopher Teichrieb appeared for his hearing today, Aug. 24, in Kelowna court and Crown prosecutor Wendy Stephen says he was granted release.

Stephen says the details of the hearing cannot be published due to a court-ordered publication ban, but Teichrieb will be on house arrest with electronic monitoring. He was released on $100,000 bail.

Teichrieb is slated to stand trial in Kelowna on Oct. 22 for charges of attempted murder and assault with a weapon in connection to an incident in June 2016, when 18-year-old Jessie Simpson was allegedly beaten with a baseball bat in the Brocklehurst neighbourhood, near Teichrieb's home.

Teichrieb was arrested near his residence following the incident.

The charges against Teichrieb have not been proven in court.
