Air quality advisory for Kamloops
KAMLOOPS – An air quality advisory for the South Thompson region, including the City of Kamloops, has been issued by Environment Canada and the B.C. Ministry of Environment.
High concentrations of fine particulate matter are expected to persist for the next few days. Smoke from open burning and wood burning appliances are likely the cause.
In Kamloops, the Air Quality Health Index Saturday was listed as moderate by the Ministry.
People with chronic medical conditions should put off strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted, according to an alert.
Exposure to the pollution is a concern for infants, the elderly and people who have diabetes, lung disease or heart disease.
Staying indoors and air conditioned spaces is also advised as it helps to reduce fine particulate exposure, the advisory says.
The advisory also covers a big chunk of Northern Interior and Coast including the Vanderhoof, Smithers, Telkwa, Port Alberni, Comox Valley and Kitimat areas.

I have photos of this years devastation in the woods behind Vinsulla. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.684920498257777.1073741850.226077330808765&type=1

So how about tighter controls on wood stoves. A more environmentally friendly ministry of forestry and a long over due anti-idling law? And yes, the pulp mill is never above suspicion due to their track record…Also the elephant in the room…wont it be grand when there is a huge open pit mine on top of all this? We need a more ethical government that will staff and put in place an effective MOE!

Hilda-Wade Lehto Nope, still don’t agree.

Al Fitter most in kamloops is the pulp mill ,it was here before this inversion ever started , just makes it worse of course they blame everything else

every year slash burning is done by government/forestry and logging corporations by the thousands…problems is the wood is cold wet and pushed together in a tight pile so no air can help it burn properly. then they have the Gaul to blame residential. there is a reason forest fires don’t happen this time of year…so instead of burning properly, the wood smoulders, producing toxic chemicals instead of harmless elements; learn the facts at http://www.championchimneyservices.com.

I did Kate Parker…..I just don’t believe everything I read!

They said it’s from “open burning and wood burning appliances”. Nothing about pulp mills.

Why is it so bad?
-
What is causing it? I’m in the Kamloops area and it’s very Hazy outside.
