Spanish-language version of Eve Ensler’s ‘The Vagina Monologues’ goes off-Broadway

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Eve Ensler’s groundbreaking play “The Vagina Monologues” is going back to an old home but with a new accent.

The Westside Theater said Tuesday it will mount a Spanish-language version called “Los Monólogos de la Vagina” directed by Jaime Matarredona, who is the director of the version currently playing in Mexico City.

Performances begin on May 6. Casting will be announced later.

“The Vagina Monologues” is based on interviews with more than 200 women about their memories and experiences of sexuality. It has been translated into 35 languages and been performed by such stars as Glenn Close, Oprah Winfrey and Winona Ryder.

The show played 1,381 performances at the off-Broadway Westside from 1999 to 2003.
