Mother and children escape burning home, husband sought for attempted murder

LANGLEY, B.C. – An attempted murder investigation is underway in Langley, B.C., but it’s possible the suspect may still be inside a fire-gutted home after an early morning blaze in that Metro Vancouver suburb.

Langley RCMP say the incident began just after 1 a.m. when the 44-year-old Langley man set a fire inside the home of his estranged wife.

Cpl. Holly Marks says the man then entered his wife’s bedroom and hit her with an unknown weapon, before attacking the woman’s daughter with the same weapon as the daughter tried to intervene.

The woman, her daughter and son all fled the now-blazing house and both females were treated for injuries related to the attack, but investigators are uncertain if the suspect escaped.

Firefighters have finished a primary search of the home, but a more complete search must wait until the structure has cooled and is safe to enter.

Marks says the Langley man is known to them for previous domestic incidents and the attempted murder investigation will continue as Mounties try to locate and arrest him.
