Book highlights work of forgotten Art Deco muralist whose work adorns Radio City Music Hall

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Hildreth Meiere (mee-EHR’) was a prolific Art Deco muralist whose work adorns Radio City Music Hall and many other great buildings.

Yet the artist is relatively unknown.

Now a new book by two art historians seeks to give Meiere her due.

“The Art Deco Murals of Hildreth Meiere” is scheduled for release May 1. It describes Meiere as a central figure in American mural and decorative art, a muralist celebrated at a time when few women artists got recognition.

Meiere’s stunning stylized figures and geometric patterns can be found at 100 buildings in 15 states. They include the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., the Nebraska state capitol, and Temple Emanu-El and St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York.

Meiere died in 1961.
