Mayoral candidate Darrin Taylor to hold pre-election town hall meetings

VERNON – Mayoral candidate Darrin Taylor is heading out onto the campaign trail and holding two pre-election public town hall meetings.

The meetings scheduled for Sept. 13 and Sept. 17 are a way to meet residents and gather public input into the issues facing Vernon residents, Taylor says in a press release Sept. 5. According to the release Taylor is running on a platform of "positive change" and has supporters from all walks of life, including women, seniors, and community leaders.

Taylor says he has identified issues ranging from attainable housing to public safety and wants to hear from constituents on the issues that are important to them.

"The political landscape is changing rapidly, and transparency and citizen input are crucial at the municipal level," says Taylor in the release. "The challenges that face us as a city require a new kind of politician who is able to have open, honest conversations with their constituents on an ongoing basis. I think we can do better."

Taylor says if he is elected mayor he will hold periodic town hall meetings giving residents the chance to have informal interaction with the mayor and councillors.

The town hall meetings take place at the Schubert Centre, 3505 30 Ave, Vernon, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. and Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
