VICTORIA – Premier Christy Clark has unveiled a skills-training strategy designed to ensure British Columbia has enough skilled workers for liquefied natural gas projects.
A report with input from government, labour groups, LNG companies and First Nations makes 15 recommendations to attract a mobile workforce to the sector.
It includes recommendations on training, marketing and developing best practices to ensure workers are available to fill LNG jobs.
One recommendation says a quarter of the workers should be apprentices.
Clark has often said that LNG has the potential to create 100,000 jobs.
But some industry analysts and employment experts say finding enough skilled workers may be a problem.
