Donna Tartt, Doris Kearns Goodwin finalists for Carnegie literary medals

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Bestsellers by novelist Donna Tartt and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin are among the finalists for the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction.

The fiction nominees are Tartt’s “The Goldfinch,” Edwidge Danticat’s “Claire of the Sea Light” and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Americanah.”

Goodwin’s “The Bully Pulpit” is a nonfiction finalist, along with Nicholas A. Basbanes’ “On Paper” and Sheri Fink’s “Five Days at Memorial.”

Winners each receive $5,000 and finalists $1,500. The nominees were announced Monday by the American Library Association. The prizes were established in 2012 and are funded by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. Winners will be announced June 28.
