RCMP resolve standoff with woman barricaded in Kamloops home
KAMLOOPS – The Southeast District Emergency Response Team were called in to help the Kamloops RCMP after a woman barricaded herself in her residence on the South Shore.
Around 3:30 p.m. yesterday, Sept 11, a woman called 911 threatening violence to herself at her residence in the 400 block of 1 Avenue, according to an RCMP media release.
Police established a perimeter around her home and an RCMP negotiator made contact with the woman, but she refused to leave her residence, RCMP say.
Around 8:30 p.m., the woman was taken into custody and is now being assessed at a local medical facility.
The woman is 50-years-old and is known to police, police say.
“It’s unusual that Southeast District Emergency Response Team has to be deployed two days in a row to Kamloops for essentially the same type of call. In these cases, a person threatening to harm themselves and then refusing to leave their residence,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release. “This team is trained to deal with these types of situations and are an asset to the district.”
