NDP says B.C. lottery boss who quit got severance of 86K, computer, phone, iPad

VICTORIA – Finance Minister Mike de Jong says the government followed proper guidelines when the former head of the BC Lottery Corp., quit his job and that details about an alleged $86,000 severance payment are yet to be confirmed.

Michael Graydon resigned at the end of January, but now the Opposition NDP is citing an email saying he was paid severance and allowed to leave with his laptop, iPhone and iPad.

New Democrat Kathy Corrigan says government employees who quit usually don’t receive a severance package.

Corrigan said the Jan. 30 email lists the severance payment and the items Graydon took with him.

But De Jong says Graydon’s departure was in keeping with government policy and that he’ll provide the specifics on how much the former CEO was paid.

Graydon was hired in March 2008 and now works in the private sector.
