No summer feel in Okanagan weekend weather forecast

OKANAGAN – Okanagan residents should prepare for a wet, cool weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Armel Castellan says a large upper trough is extending its way through central B.C. today, Sept. 13, and it is expected to bring more rain and cool temperatures to the Okanagan through the weekend.

“It’s going to be dreary for this time of year. There won’t be that remnant summer feel to the weather this weekend,” Castellan says.

The forecast calls for a cloudy day today in the Okanagan with a 60 per cent chance of showers in Vernon and Kelowna, and a 40 per cent chance of precipitation in Penticton. The mercury will creep up to 18 Celsius today in the valley with a risk of a thundershower this afternoon and tonight in Kelowna and Penticton.

You can expect much of the same for tomorrow, with showers, a risk of a thundershowers and highs around 18 C in Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton.

The weekend promises to be showery and cool up and down the valley, with highs of around 14 C on Saturday and 15 C on Sunday.

Normal high temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are around 20 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
