Former North Macedonian corruption judge charged with graft
SKOPJE, Macedonia – A senior North Macedonian prosecutor has brought charges against the former special prosecutor, Katica Janeva, and two local businessmen for alleged corruption.
Prosecutor Vilma Ruskovska’s office said in a press statement Thursday that the suspects face charges including bribery, money laundering and abuse of power. They deny wrongdoing.
Janeva’s office was created in 2015 as part of a crackdown on organized crime and corruption within the framework of North Macedonia’s bid to join the European Union.
North Macedonia’s parliament relieved Janeva of her duties in September. She has been in pre-trial custody since August.
