Montreal beats Richmond Hill 7-4 on opening day of ringette championships

REGINA – Catherine Cartier scored twice and added four assists as the Montreal Mission earned a 7-4 win over the Richmond Hill Lightning on Monday in the National Ringette League division on the opening day of the Canadian ringette championships.

Also in the top division, the Ottawa Ice downed the Edmonton WAM! 4-2 and the Cambridge Turbos edged the Waterloo Wildfire 3-2. Defending NRL champions Calgary RATH topped the Gloucester Devils 6-3.

In the under-19 division, Alberta slipped past Nova Scotia 4-3 and routed Manitoba’s Eastman Flames 11-7. Ontario’s Richmond Hill also beat the Flames 6-3 and topped British Columbia’s TORL 9-2.

Quebec beat Nova Scotia 9-2 and also delivered a 9-2 loss to TORL.

Ontario beat PEI 10-3 and posted a 6-3 win over Alberta’s Zone 5 GRIT, while Lac St. Louis beat Saskatchewan 5-4 and downed PEI 15-10.

In the U16 division, Calgary KODA defeated Saskatchewan 8-1 and Manitoba 7-5, while Ontario shutout Nova Scotia 7-0 and downed Alberta’s Zone 5 Zeal 8-1.

Quebec’s Outaouais Extreme also beat Zone 5 Zeal by a score of 7-5 and they defeated Nova Scotia 6-3.

Central Alberta Sting crushed New Brunswick 9-2 and shut out the Regina Stingers 4-0, while Manitoba’s Eastman Flames posted a 12-7 victory over Alberta’s St. Albert Mission and a 6-3 win over Alberta.
