WHL: Polivka stops 38 shots, Royals use power play to win Game 3 vs. Winterhawks

VICTORIA – The Victoria Royals took advantage of the Portland Winterhawks’ lack of discipline on Monday night to skate away with a 2-1 victory in Western Hockey League playoff action.

Brandon Magee and Austin Carroll scored power-play goals in the first period for the Royals, who trail the second-round series 2-1.

Victoria’s Patrik Polivka stopped 38 shots for the win and was 14 seconds away from a shutout when Taylor Leier put the Winterhawks on the board.

Brendan Burke turned aside 25-of-27 shots for Portland.

The Royals went 2 for 8 on the power play while the Winterhawks failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
