Former Penticton mayor seeking seat on city council
PENTICTON – A former three-term Penticton mayor says he’s not happy just writing letters to the editor critical of city council and is throwing his hat in the ring again.
Former Penticton Mayor Jake Kimberley announced in a media release today, Sept. 13, he is running for seat on city council in the Oct. 20 municipal election.
Kimberley says he is concerned about economic zone incentives, parking and traffic issues at the South Okanagan Events Centre, and the handling of the Skaha Lake Park privatization proposal. He says the present council has struggled to respond to residents concerns regarding these contentious issues.
According to the media release, Kimberley was elected to city council twice in the 1980s, and was elected mayor in 1990, 1993 and 2005.
"I will therefore bring a lot of listening and decision making experience to the city council, and I look forward again to represent the residents of Penticton on the next council as a councillor," he says in the release.
