Kelowna to earn more than $1 million from expanded fire dispatch service

KELOWNA – Kelowna city council will likely adopt an agreement Monday to start providing fire dispatch service to Vernon and the Okanagan Indian Band starting Oct. 15.

In a report going to council Monday, Sept. 17, it’s projected the expanded service will bring in more than $1 million in net revenues to the city during the five year life of the contract.

Currently, Vernon dispatches for the Okanagan Indian Band so there are two separate contracts on the table.

The Vernon contract is expected to net almost $945,000 over five years with another $78,000 coming from the Okanagan Indian Band.

The City of Kelowna already provides fire dispatch service to three regional districts in the Kootenays (East Kootenay since June 2016, Central Kootenay and Kootenay-Boundary since May of this year).
