Police: 3-year-old’s stumbling baby sitter was drunk, high
ARLINGTON, Mass. – Police in the Boston suburb of Arlington say they arrested the baby sitter for a 3-year-old boy after officers found her stumbling around a neighbourhood drunk and high on prescription drugs with the child in tow.
Police Chief Frederick Ryan says officers arrested 51-year-old Susan Devereaux, of Medford, on Wednesday afternoon after being called to the neighbourhood by a resident. Ryan says officers found Devereaux trying to enter the wrong house, and they noticed a strong odour of alcohol coming from her.
Devereaux was charged with reckless endangerment of a child. A phone listing for her could not be found Thursday. It wasn’t clear if she has a lawyer who could respond to the allegations.
The boy’s mother told police she hired Devereaux through the babysitingwebsite Care.com.
