Small commercial plane crashes, burns in SW Alaska; no word on those aboard

BETHEL, Alaska – Alaska State Troopers say a small commercial passenger plane has crashed and burned near Bethel, Alaska.

A troopers’ spokeswoman said Tuesday night that so far no survivors have been located and no fatalities have been confirmed.

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says troopers flew to the scene after a Cessna 208 Caravan was reported overdue and a local pilot spotted a burning wreckage.

Peters said she’s not yet releasing any information on how many were aboard.

National Transportation Safety Board investigator Clint Johnson says that type of single-engine plane could carry nine passengers and a pilot. He says he has no idea how many were aboard this plane.

Bethel is about 680 kilometres west of Anchorage.
