TORONTO – A U.K. company that tracks the performance of home internet connections around the world is asking for Canadians to share their data this summer.

SamKnows works with public and private-sector organizations in several countries, including Canada’s CRTC.

SamKnows estimates that Canadians working from home lost about 19 minutes a day on average in 2020 due to internet speed issues.

It has put out a call for volunteers who are willing to install a free device that connects to home routers and sends anonymous data to SamKnows.

SamKnows hasn’t disclosed how many Canadian users will qualify to have a home kit delivered to their home this year or who has commissioned the study

A CRTC report published last June by the regulator was based on SamKnows data collected from about 3,000 Canadian households in October 2019.
