Anna and Jane McGarrigle to publish joint memoir, due out in October 2015

TORONTO – Montreal folksinger Anna McGarrigle and her sister Jane have announced plans to release a memoir documenting their family’s story.

Anna and her late sister Kate released 10 albums together as a duo, and their renowned songwriting inspired covers by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt and Billy Bragg.

Kate McGarrigle died of a rare form of cancer in 2010.

According to a press release from publisher Random House Canada, the book will cover the siblings’ ancestors, their upbringing, the 1960s folk scenes of Montreal and New York and ultimately the long career of the McGarrigle Sisters.

Anna and Jane are aunts to Kate’s children, well-known musicians Rufus and Martha Wainwright.

The memoir is due out in October 2015.

“We love the wit, charm and sensitive touch they have already brought to the material,” Random House Canada associate editor Amanda Lewis said in the release.
