Southern Ontario, Quebec on flood watch with heavy rains on the way

BEAUCEVILLE, Que. – Parts of Quebec and southern Ontario are under flood watch with heavy rain expected to hit both regions in the coming days.

Several dozen homes and businesses have already been evacuated in the Beauce region south of Quebec City, where there’s a kilometre-long ice jam along a local river.

In Ontario, the City of Belleville is under a state of emergency. Some homes have already been flooded.

Environment Canada says parts of southern Ontario could receive up to 75 millimetres of rain by early Tuesday.

Another 45 millimetres of rain is expected today in southern and central Quebec.

The weather agency says more flooding is possible in low-lying areas.
