50th wedding anniversary goes ahead as planned after stolen laptops returned

NANAIMO, B.C. – Fifty years of memories packed into a PowerPoint presentation for a wedding-anniversary party almost disappeared when two laptops were stolen in Nanaimo, B.C.

RCMP say the computers were taken from the home of an elderly couple whose daughters had prepared the presentation to celebrate their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.

Police received several 911 calls on Friday night from residents who said someone was attempting to break into their suites.

Const. Gary O’Brien says one caller reported his patio door was smashed, and another said he heard a loud bang.

O’Brien says that thanks to the eagle eye of an auxiliary officer who joined Mounties at the scene, a man was arrested after a short chase and police recovered two laptops.

They were returned to the happy couple, who shared their memories of half a century of wedded bliss on Saturday night as planned.
