NHL suspends Kings’ Pearson for rest of pre-season, two regular-season games

NEW YORK – The NHL has suspended Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Pearson for the remainder of the pre-season and two regular-season games for an illegal check to the head of Edmonton Oilers defenceman Brandon Davidson.

The incident occurred in the second period of Sunday’s pre-season game in Vernon, B.C. Pearson was assessed a match penalty for illegal check to the head and a game misconduct.

Davidson left the game after the hit and did not return.

The suspension will cost Pearson US$15,555.56. He will miss the Kings’ season opener at San Jose and their home opener against Philadelphia.

He will be eligible to return Oct. 18 at Minnesota.
