Pennsylvania congressman Tim Murphy helps save man’s life

PITTSBURGH – A Pennsylvania congressman helped save the life of a man found unconscious in a Washington, D.C., office building.

Politico first reported Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy helped the man Wednesday.

Murphy performed CPR, and a Capitol police officer used a defibrillator on the man who was found unconscious in an elevator Murphy had summoned. The man’s breathing and pulse were restored.

Murphy tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the victim is a “sweet gently guy that delivers mail” to Congressional offices.

Murphy says his mother taught him CPR years ago, but he became officially certified in CPR last year in the Navy Reserve.

The congressman represents a Pittsburgh-area district.
