City warns of garbage scam in West Kelowna
WEST KELOWNA – If you received a notice from the City of West Kelowna saying you rolled your garbage container to the curb too soon, you better take a closer look.
The city’s communications supervisor Kirsten Jones says in a media release issued today, Oct. 3, that a resident living in the Sunnyside neighbourhood was served with a fake bylaw violation notice that included a $125 fine.
The letter includes City of Kelowna “identifiers” and was issued by fictitious officer "R.B.G.", she says.
“Authentic City of West Kelowna notices of this kind contain the name and contact information of bylaw officers and typically have an infraction ticket attached,” Jones says in the release. “Bylaw notices are never anonymous.”
The city is looking into the fraud and wants anyone who received a similar letter, or has information that could help with the investigation, to give bylaw enforcement a call at 778-797-8810.
