Murder trial over, man pleads guilty to manslaughter
KAMLOOPS – Torbin Alec has ended his murder trial by pleading guilty to stabbing and killing a friend in a drunken dispute over a girl last year.
Defence lawyer Jeremy Jensen said Alec pleaded guilty to manslaughter today, ending his second degree murder trial that began earlier this week in B.C. Supreme Court. Alec stabbed Jesse Seymour to death at a party on Columbia Street on July 15, 2012.
A second degree murder conviction comes with a mandatory life imprisonment, while a manslaughter conviction has no minimum sentence.
The case will return again to court on Nov. 25 to fix a date for sentencing.
