Two killings inside a hospital, one attempted killing, probed by Montreal police

MONTREAL – Montreal police are investigating two slayings and an attempted murder inside a Montreal hospital.

Const. Daniel Lacoursiere says two elderly patients were suffocated at the hospital last week. One death happened on June 16 while the other occurred last Friday.

Investigation of the deaths was transferred to the homicide squad after autopsies were done.

Lacoursiere says no arrests have been made in those deaths. But police did arrest one suspect in an attempted murder, in the hospital’s psychiatric ward, last Friday.

A 31-year-old patient has been arrested in that attack on another patient, and he has been ordered by the court to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The survivor of the alleged attack is a 71-year-old woman.

Lacoursiere says police have not determined if all the cases are linked.
